Fugitives from Jade Peak Sect, Lian Soh and alchemist Mei Xiang flee into a world where an unaffiliated cultivator with a demonic qi signature is either a target or weapon. They travel toward the Shen Lao mountains seeking the archive of Xu Mohan, the original creator of the Path of Nine Breakings. Each breaking pushes Lian into Core Formation territory, but makes his corrupted signature louder and harder to hide.
